Larrakia Development Corporation moves to cut living costs for senior Larrakia
The Board of the Larrakia Development Corporation has increased its distributions to senior Larrakia over 60 years of age to help defray the rising cost of living in the Darwin.
The Larrakia Development Corporation's Chairman, Koolpinyah Barnes, said the Board has decided to increase distributions for services to the senior Larrakia by 25 per cent, from $200 per quarter to $250 per quarter, or $1,000 per year.
"This money will help the senior Larrakia within the major Larrakia families in the Darwin region meet the increased cost of electricity and water which were announced by the NT Government earlier this year," Mr Barnes said.
"These NT Government increases have been levied since July 1 this year, and the Larrakia Development Corporation Board has made the new Distributions Policy retrospective to that same day."
Larrakia families have benefited to the tune of over $277,000 from the Larrakia Development Corporation's Distribution Policy, for a range of benefits including, funeral funds, scholarships, headstones, small business and first home owners all funded from the profits of work undertaken by Larrakia Development Corporation.
Mr. Barnes said that the Larrakia Development Corporation is proud of its business and commercial focus and also proud of its Aboriginal heritage.
"The Distribution Policy to Larrakia is funded from the investment income earned by the commercial activities of the Larrakia Development Corporation," Mr. Barnes said.
"This is another example of the Larrakia Development Corporation working for all Larrakia people."
