Larrakia lawyer joins Australia Day Council
Mr Nigel Browne, a Charles Darwin University graduate and director of the Larrakia Development Corporation, has been named as one of two new appointments to the Board of the Territory's Australian Day Committee.
The Chief Minister, Paul Henderson, has announced the appointment of Mr Browne and Local Government identity Mr Jeff Colver to the ADC NT Committee.
Mr Browne, a Larrakia man, works as a prosecutor with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. A former member of the Chief Minister's Youth Round Table and the Federal Government's National Indigenous Youth Leadership Group, he now serves with the Australian Defence Force Reserves.
The Chairman of the Larrakia Development Corporation, Koolpinyah Richard Barnes, congratulated the Larrakia lawyer on his appointment to the Board of such an influential body in his own community.
"I am confident that Nigel will tackle this task with all the enthusiasm and professionalism he has demonstrated in the courtroom, and in the Boardroom of the LDC," Mr Barnes said.
"I hope other community organizations follow the lead of the Australia Day Council and consider the appointment of local Larrakia people to their decision making bodies."
