Larrakia Development Corporation Projects

Darla Residential Development

Darla was purchased by the Larrakia Development Corporation for 1.2 millon dollars (AU). Consisting of 50-hectares of land, the estate is the first example of traditional owners, and of any Australian Government, having negotiated native title and land access for urban development. It's achievements have set the benchmark for indigenous commercial projects throughout the Northern Territory and Australia.

Darla is located within the Palmerston suburb of Rosebury, and is a residential housing development of 375-lots. Developed over 5 stages with the last stage being sold late in the year of 2006.

Lyons Residential Development

Lyons is located in Darwin's northern suburbs adjacent to Royal Darwin Hospital and bound by Lee Point Road, Tambling Terrace & Henbury Avenue.

The Development of the community of Lyons is a joint venture between the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Canberra Investment Corporation Ltd (CIC).

The Larrakia Development Corporation has negotiated a heads of agreement, with the Defence Housing Authority and the Canberra Investment Corporation. For the Larrakia Development Corporation, this agreement provides a range of employment and business opportunities. The aim is to also have long term sustainable benefits, such as securing further joint venture opportunities.

East Arm Port

The Larrakia Development Corporation continues to seek an appropriate tenant to lease this prime 1.2 Hectare East Arm Port site.

This industrial block is positioned near the entrance to the Adelaide to Darwin Ghan Railway Station presenting enormous business potential.

The Larrakia Development Corporation Board is keen to negotiate a long term lease with a large Territory or National Company and is also prepared to purpose build a warehouse/storage or factory premises to suit an approved tenant.

Whickham Point LNG Plant

ConocoPhillips has been associated with the Northern Territory Government and the traditional owners of Wickham Point for over eleven years.

Construction commenced at Wickham Point mid 2003, and the project has been a resounding success - completed ahead of time and under budget. It has since delivered 49 cargos to customers in Tokyo - 39 of which were in 2006.

Cultural Centre

In 2000, the Larrakia acquired a crown lease of one hectare of land at Darwin's Bullocky Point as part of an agreement with the Northern Territory government as compensation for acquistion of land required to build the Alice Springs to Darwin Railway.

Unfortunately, this site has not been very workable, given its restrictive access, steep rock incline and lack of public visibility.

Another site at the foot of the escarpment below Government House, adjacent to the Darwin Watrfront project and the Deckchair Cinema, is being explored.

The Larrakia Development Corporation has obtained an engineering report for the new site, and is working with the Northern Territory government on working through what could become an exciting new chapter for the Larrakia.

Darwin Waterfront & Convention Centre

A memorandum of understanding has been formed between the Northern Land Council, the Northern Territory Construction Association and the Larrakia Development Corporation to maximise employment, training and business opportunities for Larrakia.
