Larrakia Development Corporation and INPEX signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), late 2009, that will guarantee consideration of qualified Aboriginal workers on the $12 billion gas project.
The proposed site for the now named Ichthys project will be Blaydin Point. The new LNG plant would include more than 2000 jobs during its construction phase and 300 during the projects operation. Environmental impact studies are being conducted and the cultural significance of Ichthys site is also being taken into consideration.
INPEX recognises the Larrakia people as the traditional owners of the Darwin region, and is working with them to secure a sustainable economic future for all Larrakia.
