The Larrakia Development Corporation was officially incorporated under the Corporation’s Act in February 2002. It is owned and managed by the Traditional Owners of Darwin, and its surrounds, the Larrakia people.
Today the Corporation is highly regarded as one of Australia’s leading Aboriginal organisations. It provides employment and business opportunities for Larrakia people through its own wealth creation and entrepreneurial activities, which do not rely on any government funding.
The prime objective of the Larrakia Development Corporation is to deliver economic benefits to all Larrakia people through the creation of enterprises to employ, train and operate commercially with a view to making a profit – not through a hand-out system of welfare.
The Corporation is now a major business player in Darwin’s economy, partnering with businesses such as INPEX, ConocoPhillips, Macmahon, CIC Limited, BMD, Sitzler, and Toga.
The Larrakia Development Corporation’s core activities include land development, house and general construction, landscaping and various community services that includes a bus service.
The charter of the Corporation’s Board is to focus on viable commercial developments, reinvest profits, distribute a profit share to grow the well-being of the Larrakia community and promote employment and training opportunities to Larrakia and other Territorians.
The Larrakia Development Corporation is proud to stand behind its slogan “working for all Larrakia”.
